Another overdue update...

WOW, all I can say is my how time flies!!! Actually if you know me then you know that's not all I can or will say. :) So, I am going to express my freedom of speech and continue this blog, of course my freedom ends when Erica proof reads it... :P

For those of you that I didn't lose after my opening ramble, I thank you for considering to tough it out.

It has been a few weeks since the last time we checked in but OMG the things that have gone on in that short time. Lets start off with Kalli...
One of many pictures of the angel sleeping...

What can I say about the most beautiful daughter anybody could ever ask for? She has been an UNBELIEVABLY good baby! She is such a blessing. She is not fussy or anything. She eats, sleeps and stares off into space when she is awake. Oh yeah how could I forget, she is a normal baby and poops like a machine!

Don't even consider waking the sleeping baby!
She has gained the appropriate weight and then some. She Is sleeping most of the night with a feeding usually around 2 and again around 7. I guess she enjoys her sleep as much as mom, dad and the snoring dog. One big sleeping like a log family! I just can't begin to express how lucky we are to have such a beautiful, well behaved, healthy baby girl (not to be bragging, just very thankful)...

I can still chill while I sleep!

I guess I can move Lexi up the totem pole and talk about her next, seeing as how she is the one keeping us the busiest the past week. Well, we got the poor little girl spade this week and OH what an adventure it has been. Long story kind of short, she got spade on Tuesday, was fine on Wednesday, Thursday morning she somehow started to bust out of her stitches so Erica had to rush her back to the vet. She ended up having to be put under again and have another surgery. After a rather ridiculous vet bill she was bandaged up and on her way. I asked for some tranquilizer to keep the bear calm and though very hesitant, the vet gave in. She warned us that we should only need 1/4 of this pill. She knew Lexi and said we could give her 1/2 to knock her out. I guess she didn't know Lexi because I gave her 1/4 and waited 30 minutes like the vet said, no change. So I gave her the other 1/4, still nothing. This girl was still wired like she had just raided Starbucks! Back to the vet on Saturday, Lexi got the ok and re-bandaged. I told the vet and nurse that they swapped the tranquilizer pills with sugar pills and they couldn't believe it had no effect on her. Well, they believed it but still didn't believe it. I was going to ask for something they would use to take down a larger animal like a grizzly bear or a mammoth but figured at this point they would have thought it was for me. This time around she is doing better but the e-collar is driving her ape shit! Poor little thing...
Poor, poor Lexi :(

Now a little somethen somethen about momma. I guess I can start off by saying she has done a PHENOMENAL job holding down the fort and taking care of my girls. She has done way better then I could have ever asked for. You would think that she has had a baby before. I guess it's just that "motherly instinct". Getting up in the middle of the night and feeding her without a single complaint is a fete of its own knowing how she does NOT like to be woken (I'm still talking about Erica, although all 3 of my girls LOVE their sleep!). All in all, I can't say enough how lucky I am to have her as my baby momma and how proud I am with the job she has done with raising my little girl while I was at work...

Are they thinking or sleeping? Sleeping of course!

On to the fun stuff, not really, me! :) Nothing really new. I've been able to make it to a couple soccer games on the weekends and even managed to go to a few jiu jitsu classes. The biggest thing that has gone on is Erica and I have decided that I am going to start my 6 weeks FMLA tomorrow. FUN!!! I get to help out and hopefully not get in the way. I still have to go into work 2 days a week but I can't complain about that.

We were able to go out on a date last Friday night thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Boon. They to have been a HUGE help and we are beyond thankful for them!!! We ended up at a wine tasting dinner for Pellegrini wines. It was so cool because the owner of the winery, Robert Pellegrini was actually there. We met another cool couple that we will hopefully get to hang out with sometime soon. They also have a puppy so we can take Lexi on a play date. It was a fun night and glad we got the opportunity to do it.

Us before our big night out

I have rambled on more then enough so I will go for now. Talk to you all soon! :)
Yes, all I do is sleep!

Weight update

Kalli loves her swing!

I just got back from the Dr. and found out that Kalli gained her birth weight back and then some! She now weighs 7lbs 7 ounces. It was brought to my attention that we didn't post the birth weight...she weighed 6lbs 15 ounces. Dr. said she is a healthy baby! Good news! I was given the OK to let her sleep til she wakes up...yippee!
My Mom and I went for a long walk the other day. Kalli just passed out and slept the whole time...she just loves that jogger!
The pediatrician doesn't want us going anywhere with her until she's 2 months old. So, that means no grocery store, mall, restaurants or any crowded places. My Mom watched her last night while me and Chico went to grab a bite to eat. It was nice to get out and spend some quality time with him! My Mom is wonderful and she's the BEST Grandma EVER!!! I really can't thank her enough for everything she has done for us.
That's about it for now, Kalli and I are off to Grandma's house! We'll update more soon!

I love to sleep!

Precious....

Sleeping in Mom and Dad's bed

It's been one week and 2 days since Kalli was born and I can't get enough of our precious baby girl!!! We went to the pediatriacian on Friday and found out that she had lost 14 ounces which is a pretty big deal for a newborn to lose that much weight. So, we have been feeding her every 2 to 3 hours and then giving her a little Enfimil after the feedings to gain the weight back. She went for her follow-up appointment on Monday and she gained half her weight back....YEAH!! She is starting to smile a lot and makes funny faces. She is so good at night that I have to wake her up to feed her otherwise she'd probably sleep her life away. She loves car rides and going for walks in her jogger! Other than that she is perfectly healthy and we are truly blessed!
We have been walking a little more everyday since I am feeling great! The first couple of days were pretty painful and I didn't want to do much. I can't wait to start running again and I will be happy if I can get at least one wakeboard session in before the lake gets too cold.
Chico is the BEST Dad in the world! He takes such good care of me and Kalli. He was a great coach in the delivery room and kept me going! All of us girls in the house are so lucky:)

Bath time

Lexi is also really good with Kalli. She's very attentive and any noise she makes she perks her ears up and checks to see if she's ok.
Just a quick update and wanted to share some more picture of Kalli! We'll post more soon.

Kalli Elizabeth Mendoza...

WOW!!! Where do I begin??? I want to start off in chronological order saying something about the baby's room but I have to start off with the most exciting info first...

As most of you already know, we had our little baby girl Monday night. She decided to make an early appearance (not one of mom's traits). She was born 10 days early, 10/02/2006 at 9:19pm to be exact. Both mom and baby are doing AWESOME!

The day started off as a typical morning with neither of us wanting to get out of bed for work. Erica was cramping most of the night and morning, not to intense but still cramping. For some reason we both decided to stay home and play it by ear, not at all a hard decision to make! The morning continued on as normal with both of us being lazy and the dog wanting to play. Erica came downstairs to join my parents and I. Shortly there after, around 10:00, Erica made one of her every 5 minute bathroom stops. She called me into the bathroom and knew it had to be one of 2 things. Either she was excited about the size of something she dropped off or her water broke, I was hoping for the water since I can handle that a lot better. She says "I think my water broke. It's not pee, look." I'm just grateful she didn't ask me to smell. It wasn't a lot of fluid but it was enough to make us wonder and get ready. I got my parents motivated, Erica and I in the shower (not at the same time of course) and called the Dr. After the second try I was able to speak to a nurse and she said to bring her in for a check. I loaded up the car with all of the parafenalia needed and we were on our way...

Once we arrived at the Dr., around 12:00pm, Erica was not looking forward to "the exam" They ran the tests and sure enough, we had splashdown! She was 3cm dilated and 70% effaced. They called for a room at the hospital and we where on our way. Since the hospital is literally in the same parking lot we walked on over to get checked in. At this point in time Erica has still yet to have any sort of contraction or any real discomfort. (in a Napoleon Dynamite voice) Luuuccky! We got checked in and before she could even get changed she was asking for the epidural...

The staff on the Labor and Delivery floor were GREAT! We started inducing as soon as the IV was set. Very shortly there after, Erica felt her first contraction. I was trying to hold her off as long as possible before she got the epidural but that didn't work so well. She sent me out of the room to get her some juice and when I returned she had already called for the epidural (hopefully Kalli won't be as sneaky as her!). I knew she was going to have problem dealing with the pain but I will give her a ton of credit, she handled it like a RockStar! After it was in she couldn't press the happy button quick enough. She was in "mellow land" and not feeling a thing, which was good because the Dr. was on his way for another "exam". Dr. said she was 4cm (which sounded like a generous measurement) and 80% effaced. At that rate he predicted around 2:00am for the baby to grace us with her beauty. Oh, the waiting game is on...

The family gets sent home for some rest before the long night. 7:00pm comes and with that comes shift change. We received another nurse and she decided to be thorough with her first "exam". As she is elbow deep checking around she gets this look on her face that I can only describe as, let's see, how do I put this... WTF or Holy Sh*t!!! She pulls out and says "Yup, you're 10cm and we are ready to push." HOLY CRAP we where not ready to hear this but yet we where SO ready (I know that only made sense to me). I get on the phone and call back all of the troops. Within minutes we had tech's and assistants in the room with us and we were pushing! I say "we" because it was hard not to be breathing and pushing as I was watching her and listening to the nurse. About 20 minutes later we could see hair, from the baby of course. About another hour of pushing and she was crowned! They made her stop pushing because the baby was about to shoot out with out the catcher being there. Dr. arrived, threw the sign to the pitcher and sure enough, caught a strike! BABY WAS OUT! I cut the cord and we where holding what looked like a powdered donut, that cried. She was SO cute!!! Oh the relief...

The first night we didn't get to much sleep, expected of course. My reasoning for lack of sleep was "the cot" which was rolled out for me that I can only describe as a torture devise and a way they can make the dad be in pain as well. It had more hills and rolls then a rolercoaster. Erica had to be up for about 3 feedings spaced out perfectly so she didn't get to rest. Sleep is our friend...

Day 2 and we can't wait to get out of here. I mean we have free day care but that is about it. Erica did not get any sleep last night and what sleep I did get was a joke. "The cot" was yet another interesting experience. Not only was it rolly, as lumpy would be an understatement, it was loud! I would just breath and it would squeak! My spine is no longer straight and spells out the word Mississippi! OH so glad to get back into a real bed...

I would have to say we were VERY blessed with this whole experience being as easy and problem free as it was! We are TRULY blessed! Healthy baby, and healthy mom. I can't ask for anything better. I truly am the luckiest man in the world!!! :). . . (tears of joy!)

Not to make this any longer but i guess there are a couple things missing...

THE ROOM IS DONE!!! OMG, you would have thought I was building a room out of popsicle sticks. My friend Megan came out last week and helped me with the border. What a huge help she was! The 3 of us where able to do all of the finishing touches. Thank God it is complete...

Lexi of course is doing great and is ALL puppy! According to other people, "she is well behaved" I tell them to come home with us so they can change there minds. I also think I just have high standards for her. She is a great girl though and I would NEVER trade her in!
